How to Prepare for Hair Loss Part 1 – CUT IT SHORT

Knowing you’re going to lose your hair a 2nd time is totally different. I knew exactly when it was going to fall out, how it was going to fall out and what I was going to look like. I was no longer concerned about not feeling beautiful like I was back in 2013. This time, I felt prepared. Well… as prepared as I could be.

After my first round of chemotherapy, as soon as I started to feel good again, I called one of my favourite hairstylists, the beautiful sassy red head – Miss Sammy Straight Blade! I always saw her cut some funky hairstyles on others, and secretly told myself how someday, I’d let her cut my hair.

Now was the perfect chance! And that is how I think you should see this situation – an opportunity to CUT YOUR HAIR SHORT in the cutest way possible and just have FUN!

I couldn’t have chosen a better person to share this moment with me. Sammy has such a bright and lively personality. We were cracking jokes the entire time. We also did our first Instagram LIVE and our viewers were dying of laughter with us. Yes she gave me a super star haircut, but the overall experience with her is what I will never forget. From deep and meaningful conversations, to her attempting to speak Tagalog! LOL! It was priceless. I can’t thank Sammy enough for turning a terrible time into the most fun I’ve had in a long time.

If you have long hair like me, you can choose to DONATE IT! I chose to donate it to Angel Hair for Kids – A Child’s Voice Foundation.

So here are 2 PIECES OF ADVICE for anyone who will lose their hair post-chemotherapy:

  1. Get a crazy, funky short hair cut and have fun with it while it lasts!
  2. Do a good deed and Donate it to a children’s foundation that makes wigs for kids with cancer.

Trust me… you’ll feel A LOT better about this scary hair loss process!

TAKE CONTROL and turn this into a positive situation!

It just so happened that the following day, my friend Karissa Bodnar, CEO of Thrive Causemetics was coming from Seattle to Montreal! So in my next blog post… I show Karissa around my favourite spots in the city with my SUPER CUTE SHORT HAIRCUT!

To be continued…

Donating the hair is a great idea <3 However those of us who have processed hair may not have that option. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the hair has to be virgin, no dyes or bleaching. Hugs from Portugal <3
